Waste collection centre in Sulz (A)

Description of project

As subcontractor of the merz kley partner GmbH (timber construction) we were commissioned with the calculation of the ferroconcrete parts.

The site of the waste collection centre consists of a main building and a collecting point for green waste. The main building is 62 m long, approximately 39 m wide and 9,20 m high. The traffic access to the building is carried out from the south by leading it around a centre island. Adjoining rooms are arranged along the east side. A citizens’ office and a collecting box/collecting container are situated on the centre island. The container is located on the west side.

The ground conditions are fairly difficult in the project area. In order to reach the necessary difference in altitude between container location and unloading zone a backfill had to take place, which served as a preload fill as well. For a permanently solid foundation a deep foundation with driven piles was carried out. The load transfer of the main building’s wooden roof construction is made to the retaining walls on the west and east side and over three intermediate supports on the centre island. A floor slab on piles was built over the whole surface in order to avoid settlement differences and hence an impairment of serviceability.

A deep foundation was not carried out for the floor slab (22,50 m/6,25 m) with perimeter wall (height 2,30 m), so that no restrictions for the usage were given due to the preload filling and the settling at the point for green waste.

Our team was able to demonstrate our abilities by carrying out the following works:

• static calculations and dimensioning of reinforced concrete constructions and pile foundations
• creation of reinforcement plans for solid construction
