Description of project

The railway bridge across the river Isar near Scharnitz on the ÖBB-line Innsbruck - Scharnitz at km 32.090 consists of the foreland bridges (made of arches) and the main support structure over the stream bed, which was constructed as a steel structure. This steel structure was built in the early 1950s. To determine the bridge’s utilisation with the up-to-date load model LM71 and to estimate the remaining service life the ÖBB commissioned us with the recalculation and the valuation of the object.

Description of bridge

The object is a 1-section steel bridge (single-track) with a span of 24.16 m and a total width of 5.00 m.  The construction consists of welded I-girders with a height of 2.20 m and a half frame to brace the lower belts. Framework on the surface level provides an overall bracing.

Description of tasks

  • Recalculation of the complete steel structure including fatigue checks
  • Display of figures according to the single loads
  • Evaluation of structural safety
