Description of project
The filter barrier of the torrents and avalanche protection, department of Upper Austria - West, was planned as follows:
- Crown length 38.00 m in arch and height of 9.50 m in the spillway section
- Spillway with 5.90 m height and 3.90 m width in the part of the filter section
- Barrier wall with an area of 115 m2 – designed on the ground view as circular arc2
- Size of flow section: 23 m2
- Filter made of steel pipes on the upstream wing with approx. 7 m length
The static system is a combination of vault-barrier and pillar-slab-barrier (in the centre with grate brackets). Difficult underground conditions due to the jointed zone at the ground abutment had to be considered.
Description of challenges
As special challenges turned out to be the difficulties in estimating the geological/geotechnical situation. The big boulders in the bed could not be classified either as bedrock or as rock block until the actual digging started. Therefore short-term adaptions of the structural system had to be made during the construction time.
Description of tasks
- Static calculations and planning of the framework
- Coordination with the geotechnical engineer about the rock anchors in order to guarantee stable conditions in the difficult ground conditions
